Powerful allies in the social media space, says Roni Weiss, founder and owner of
US-based boutique social media consulting company RW Social, are travel bloggers,
who are social media active people who become informed about destinations,
encouraging their fellow travellers to visit sites. “Destinations even more than
businesses are in this for the long-haul. You want people to know about you, you
want people to like you. Have good, honest interactions online and you’ll appeal to
the increasing masses on social media.”

DMOs, suggests Weiss, should get more involved in non-sponsorship initiatives like
the #TTOT (Travel Talk on Twitter) which happens every Tuesday at 09h30 and
21h30 GMT. “There are so many times that I see people on Twitter talking about a
destination and the destination never gets into that conversation. Have your city or
area show up on TweetDeck or HootSuite and talk to people that are talking about
you. It’s a no-brainer. It’s why you’re there, right?”

Because of that, many critics have written Flight Search off — at least for now. “Google Flights is useless to me,” says Roni Weiss, a travel blogger and social media consultant. “Once they’re international and have the functionality of Kayak, I’ll take notice. Until then, I don’t care.”

@RoniWeiss said, “I love getting to connect with people that I would never encounter otherwise.” And he encounters many as a podcast producer and perpetual traveler.

Six people can fit in the 2-foot-deep “Psycho Tank.” The pool sits off the ground in a tent-like structure, affording privacy. Visitors are handed spa-like bathrobes, slippers and towels before disrobing or donning their own bathing suits. Roni Weiss, 28, a social media consultant from Harlem, got into the pool with three other people. “For me, it was more the naked thing than floating,” Weiss said. “It was interesting to have conversations with other naked people.”
