What?
Now this makes absolutely no sense to me.
I am looking at Leon Panetta‘s record and from everything he’s done in the past, you could have argued for any variety of positions for him, but CIA?
Panetta’s background is in civil rights and budget work. He switched from the Republican to the Democratic party and became a nine-term Congressman, working mostly on domestic issues.
Under Clinton, he worked toward creating the balanced budget.
The highest level of qualification that I’m seeing for him as a CIA head is that he was a “Member of the President’s Commission on Foreign Language and International Studies.”
Most of Obama’s Cabinet appointments have made immediate sense. Unless Obama is strictly concerned with limiting the CIA’s budget (which seems to be a strange sole focus to have at this time), I am going to have to wait to understand the decision of this appointment.
