I actually think the characters are pretty well developed and not so easily categorized as you imply (dickish, hapless, etc). The disability thing kind of fades away as I recall, so it didn't really bother me. The setting (with all of it's tea) just isn't my cup of tea (ha!) though. So, I think you are selling DA a bit short, but I'm not really drinking the kool aid either. I'll may watch season 2 at some point, but I'm certainly in no rush. All that said, you should definitely move on to Breaking Bad, which is awesome. It's a bit deliberate (ie slow) but still very good imo in the first season, but picks up the pace later and is downright excellent after that. All told, it is one of my favorite shows.
